Cooling fan relay melted
Cooling fan relay melted
Hi all,
I've had some recent issues with my fuel pump that searching the old threads helped me realize that it was the relay causing the problem. However, when I went to fix it I wasn't sure exactly which relay of the two located on the drivers firewall it was, so I guessed and checked. When I plugged it all back in I must have somehow ended up plugging the old, bad, fuel pump relay back in the coolant fan relays wiring harness. As I drove it, it started overheating in traffic and I saw the fan wasn't coming on. I went to swap out the relays to correct my mistake but the bad relay had melted itself onto the wiring harness. I went to the junkyard and got a new harness to replace the melted one but am still not getting my fan to turn on.
I was looking for suggestions on where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated. As an added note, my rear hatch pull down now doesn't work, but at the same time it was sounding a little off before all this.
Thanks.

Checked your fuses?
Re: Cooling fan relay melted
TTOP350, thanks for the reply. I checked the fuses and unfortunately, they were fine. If anyone has any other ideas to try out, that would be great. Thanks for the help.

You failed to mention the year and engine you have so the following is slightly generic.
Use a voltmeter or test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) to see if there is power on the red wire at the relay.
If there is power there, turn the key to the RUN position then ground pin B of the ALDL (Assembly Line Diagnostic Link).

Does the relay *CLICK* ?
If yes, leave the relay energized and probe the black wire with a red stripe.
Is there power there?
