Re: vats module for 91 camaro

I have a 91 Camaro. I got stuck at work one day because of Vats. This worked for me. I took down the knee bolster and you will see 2 wires (orange and white) coming form the steering column. This connects to the VATS. I unplugged it and cut the plug that runs underneath the dash towards the VATS module. NOW, before you do that, take a multimeter and check the resistance of the chip on the key. One test lead on one side of the chip and the other test lead on the other side. Mine was like 10k ohms, I believe. Get a resistor thats around 5% tolerance either way and put one resistor lead on the orange wire and the lead on the white wire. If you measured correctly, you car should start thinking it has the right key in all the time. You can get creative with the resistor and make a nice valet plug out of it

There are no aftermarket module options if the module is faulty
You delete VATS by having it taken out in the tune or install a device
http://www.bakerelectronix.com/products_vats/
to generate the correct signal needed by the computer

Both ways require the starter relay to be bypassed

You could try for a used VATS module at the junkyard but would need a new key to match it . Are 15 different key combos ( that can't be changed )

Usual remedy but if the VATS module itself is faulty then resistors will do little as the module has to be working correctly to read them

What is your problem ;
no cranking over
or no fire up

What tests have you done to prove it is the module itself ???????
Have you tried jumping the starter solenoid ( so it cranks over ) to see if it will fire up ?

Vats has 2 parts ;
if the starter ( crank ) part is faulty then bypassing the starter relay solves that problem without replacing anything
