On my firebird, the lights flip up even if you just push the half of the button for the running lights. (headlights not on). My friends 87 does not do this. is it a 90s thing? Also, both headlights always go up (one faster than the other), but the driver side doesnt go down most times and after the passenger side goes down its like the motor keeps running for 5 seconds or so. what should i do to fix both of these things? ive heard of rebuild kits but im not sure about gears or bushings and so on. Im in high school so Id rather not have to buy new motors. if motors are the only option i probably wont fix them til summer. any help is appreciated.

 

Either the TDS 207280 or TDS 209280 headlight repair kit will solve all the problems you describe.

The first time you repair the headlights the bushings inside the gear are what need to be replaced. TDS 207280 includes just the 3 Delrin bushings to repair one headlight motor. The TDS 209280 deluxe headlight kit includes 6 Delrin bushings, two side cover and one motor gasket, synthetic grease, 2 screws and nuts (it is common to snap off a screw head when attempting the repair, especially those that attach the motor to the headlight actuator housing). Both kits include detailed instructions on doing the repair.
