So I found this in the trunk compartment, and one of the wires were cut. I hooked the wire back up, and it became extremely hot (prob why the wire was cut). Overall, the car has multiple electrical issues and I am trying to solve one at a time, but this one has me.

Relay for something. If it was in the trunk, maybe for trunk release. Does the car have a power top? Getting hot means something electrical is shorted, motor bad, etc, or a hot wire rubbing on something. Start by checking power stuff that isn't working to try to trace it down. Good luck.

Well, I can tell you that there is no trunk release or motor on the car and the top is manual. I am going to assume that it has something to do with the torrneu release switch/solenoids, since that is the only thing (that I know of) that doesn't work.Tracing the wires are a bitch, being that all of the wiring is wrapped in electrical tape and the verts trunk area is far from roomy.

Looks like the connector for the third brake light contact plate on the rear panel. Dont know why there would be a relay plugged into it. Probably not what it is though. See if you can trace the wires. Looks to be only 3 terminals. 2 of the terminals has 2 wires each and the other is just a single wire. Could be just a bad relay causing it to get hot.

Going back to chase some electrical gremlins, still looking for an answer on what this does. I have checked haynes, chilton, and chevy service manual and I can not seem to find a mention or locate it on any electrical diagrams.

Looks aftermarket - trace the wires to see what they lead to.
Re: Does anyone know what this is?
did a quick google search of the part # stamped on it.
http://www.oehq.com/oeparts_BSH0332207103.htm
all i can find out is that it is either listed as a relay or a "mech switch".
IMO take the part # and/or relay to a reputable autoparts store (NOT autozone or advanced auto) and have them cross the part number for a OEM part number and see what that brings up, usually the OEM part numbers will give you a better description of what it does

since these guys seem to have a lot of info on this, might be worthwhile to call them and see if they can explain anything to you about it. says on there "universal relay kit for heavy duty electrical loads" I see you what looks like a cardboard box for a sub, maybe something to do with a sound system?
