Doesn't even your SES light go on? Does your fuel pump start to whirr when you first turn the key to the ignition position? Why isn't there even any sound from the beeper (have you ripped it out)?

Re: Is this my vats?
from my experience, i would say it is indeed your vats. I have mine wired up to act as a sort of cutoff switch. On my IROC, the previous owner swapped out the steering column for one with a normal key in it while still keeping the vats wired up and the key in at all times, i simply extended that to my center console and now i can remove that key and even if someone breaks in, they cant steal it. back to the point however, if i try and start the car without the vats key, this exact thing happens. I would assume you have a faulty wire somewhere and it is not allowing the key to complete the circuit.

Re: Is this my vats?
NCC asked some very good questions. Maybe one more to add: does the security light flash a few times when you turn on the ignition?
Something does not click here (pun intended). You should be seeing more lights on the dash. A desperate grasp at a straw: check your ECM/FP fuse by the battery. It is in a single fuse holder, clipped to the fender. It looks more like a dead-end connector.
