can somebody please help with break light!????
Okay so here's the skinny.... I have a 1985 trans am every bulb Burns beautifully and all are new. All fuzes have been checked multiple times. I replaced the break switch. Rebuilt the steering column about 3 months ago and everything work fine. My turn signals work all the way around along with hazardous lights. Reverse lights work too. When I apply the break pedal I get no break lights. My running lights work too. What could be the problem. If its grounds I have cleaned and check the two in the trunck area and don't know of any more PLEASE HELP ANY WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Pull the underdash panel and the kick panel next to it. You need to check the white wire at the brake switch. Use either a DMM or test light, and you should either get a light or battery voltage. Next, probe the turn signal switch at position P, which is the other end of the white wire. You should then probe the yellow and dark green wires coming out of the turn switch.
The system is weird in that the turn switch is used to turn the brake light on the side that the signal is activated OFF so that the signal can function.

Both wires at the brake switch, the orange wire going in and the white going out
The other end of the white wire at the turn signal switch, position P
Yellow and Dark Green wires coming out of the turn switch
Orange wire is hot full time (or should be)
White wire and yellow/green wires SHOULD have power with the brake switch closed (either pulled out of the brake pedal assembly or pedal depressed)
The other end of the white wire at the turn signal switch, position P
Yellow and Dark Green wires coming out of the turn switch
Orange wire is hot full time (or should be)

Why not check the adjustment on the brake switch you installed, It could be out of adjustment to far in so when the pedal is depressed it wont make the connection for the brake lights to come on, just a thought.

Re: can somebody please help with break light!????
It's one of only a couple things:
1. You have no power to the brake switch (orange wire)
2. You have no power coming out of the brake switch (white wire)
3. You have no brake signal going into the turn signal switch (other end of white wire)
4. Your brake signal is being lost in the turn switch somehow and not going out on the yellow and green wires to the tail lights.
You already know the turn signals work.
You already know the hazards work and the brake switch SHOULD be getting power (STOP HAZ fuse). But that doesn't mean it is...
Both of these show that the bulbs are good and so is the tail light ground by the hatch latch.
So, basically, your issue is probably a cut wire somewhere between the STOP HAZ fuse and the turn signal switch. If the harness has been cut open, it could have gotten cut then OR the splice between the hazard flasher, brake switch, and fuse has come apart.

If the location didn't change between your 85 and my 87 FSM, the splice should be in the main harness roughly behind the speedometer. Just follow the orange wire from the brake switch into the main harness and it should be pretty close to where the brake switch wiring splits off.
