So I just joined here. I recently got a 84 z28 5.0. Im currently replacing the brake lines. But It starts up fine but say you turn it to start it then leave it in the on position. You can take the key out and have it in your hand and it will still be cranking. Im thinking starter relay? where is it? Also the previous owner started to remove ac so there are wires cut. Please help. Im not much of a electrical person.

 

sounds like a stuck starter solenoid

 

Is that something I can replace or do I need the whole starter?

Ok I took off the starter and took it the parts store to have it tested. And it tested good. Where I go from here?

 

Still not fixed. Anyone any ideas? Starter tested good.

Sounds like it does the same thing my 86 does.
When you crank it you have to keep your hand on there to make sure it goes back to the run position.... my starter is new and still does it, i think it has to do with the ignition switch itself. This is just an opinion, seeing as mine doesnt do it everytime.

 

My 91 had a similar issue. It ended up being the ignition control module. I'm not sure how different an 84 set up is, but it's an idea.
