No VATS 89 IROC
I recently bought an 89 IROC with 80,000 and noticed it doesn't have the VATS. My key has NO chip in it. Whats unusual is everything on my car works, a/c gauges, cruise etc. Is it possible that someone just removed it some time ago..? IIf so, how difficult is it to reinstall..? Any help would be appreciated.. Stone

Re: No VATS 89 IROC
its most likely they bypassed the system with the resistor trick, and therefore you dont need the chipped keys.
i know my 88 gta is like that, i found out the other day when it wouldn't start, under the dash i found the resistor, someone had soldered it in the wiring that went up to the ignition cylinder and it had come apart. re soldered it and the car starts fine now.
if they did the resistor trick, you could find out what ohms the resistor is.. and get a set of keys made and take the resistor out. and the vats system should work again.
thats my 02. cents, im sure others will chime in.
