wiring deleting
never goen about doing this before so im feeling a bit shaky about it all, but my car is an 86 z28 t5 350, yes i know they didnt come with 350s which means it was swapped and it shows because you can hear it feel it see it etc. anyhow i have no ac id like to keep heat and control of all my guages and such. as far as the emissions and everything thats all gone as well. the carb sitting on top of the motor is a holley 750 a bit much yes but ill try to tune it to burn a bit leaner instead of so rich. i know i have the stock equipped distributor so right off the bat that will need to be changed out if i take out the whole ecm and harness correct? also do the sensors for guages go through the ecm? will deleting wiring and ecm lose my guage functionalities and such?
i know that for my electric choke i just tap into an ignition on wire and thats that.
i bought the car already past the point of returning to stock, i had some wiring start to melt yesterday so i think getting rid of it all before an ls swap couldnt hurt. i dont want to hack up the wiring just because, id like to remove the ecm and as much wiring as i can in one whole piece, but where do i start?????

Re: wiring deleting
ditch the computer and all wires but keep the speed sensor box next to the computer. only had to keep 2 wires. a ground for the speedometer and a wire that controlled the alternator. might be different on a camaro

Re: wiring deleting
shouldnt be terribly differet i wouldnt think. so i guess start by unplugging the ecm and work my way into the engine bay would be the easiest aye?

Re: wiring deleting
when i did it i removed all of the wires that passed through the passenger side kick panel except 2 (1 wire was a ground that controlled my speedometer and the other wire made the alternator stop working so i located it and rerouted it but i cant remember the color). Then pulled the computer and the associated wires then left the rest.
ill take a picture tomorrow if it would help

I used the one on there none of the colors for my wiring are even remotely close to what the diagrams are saying. Wither that or im entirely lost and shouldn't be undertaking this harness

Re: wiring deleting
'LostX' has an 88 Firebird and you have an 86 Camaro. You do NOT need to worry about the wires he described 'cause your camaro is; not an 88 Firebird. All the gauge wiring in your 86 (even your electric fan is equipped) runs thru the ENGINE harness - not the ECM harness. Your car is also a 5-speed so you don't even need to worry about TCC control making the ECM delete even easier. Quit letting your nerves get the best of you and go get dirty,..................
Remove passenger side kick panel and hush panel, then disconnect your ECM & remove it from the car.
Remove 1/2 the screws & push-pin's that hold the inner fender liner to the car. Start at the back of the front tire and stop at the top. ( Now you can move the fender liner & see/reach the ECM harness. )
Grab the plugs that you just disconnected from the ECM. Dissconnect the 2plugs that connect the ECM harness (in your hand) and the Dash Harness.
Push the ECM harness thru the body hole behind passenger kick panel and so it's completly stuffed behind the fender/fender liner. Reach behind the fender liner and disconnect the plastic clip/retainer that's holding the wire loom at the top of the fender-well. Open the hood and pull the ECM harness into the engine bay. (the large plastic plug WILL fit thru the hole)
Disconnect all the ECM connector plugs from the various ECM sensors that are still left connected to the engine, then throw the ECM harness in a box.
Put fender liner back in place, put hush panel back in place, put kick panel back in place,...... Done.

Re: wiring deleting
You identify plugs from the wire colors shown in the circuit diagrams
Select your engine from the drop down box in this link
http://www.eficonnection.com/eficonn...ngineType.aspx
and it has pics of every engine connector

Re: wiring deleting
no help for a carbd engine though. i just cant read that one diagram theres no relays where it says there should be and the connectors dont go to anything theres more connectors on the harness than the diagram entails.

Re: wiring deleting
i have a new distributor for the whole engine control and an msd 6a box. dont need another new distributor and ive had the box. i know how to do that now so im fine there. from my understanding the wiring for starter and my oil, temp, volts, electric choke are on the drivers side on that doubled box thing right? just take what i need out of that and strip the rest of the stuff like the vaccum thing for the steering and what not?
also this car has a t5 in it currently there a green and blue wire going to the trans connected to the ecm harness what is this? nuetral safety switch?
