multiple electronic issue from new purchase, need advice

Hey guys, need some help. I just bought a basket case of a Camaro. It's a 92 V6 5 speed. I got it for next to nothing. It's been hit on the driver's side quarter, but not bad and the front was hit bad enough to bend the core support. It runs and drives very well actually, BUT someone rigged a toggle switch that activates the head lights and radiator cooling fan, the rear tail lights don't work and the blinkers come on but don't blink BUT the brake lights work fine. Also the power windows, wipers and rear hatch latch don't work. I have no clue if they all stopped working at the same time or even if the body damage caused it. I don't care about the power windows, I'm gonna swap the doors for manual window ones, but I really, really want my lights and blinkers to work right! Could the pop on the rear driver'squarter have caused the rear lights to go on the fritz? Also, why would there need to be a toggle to operate both the head lights AND radiator cooling fan? What is the easiest way to diagnose and repair the rear tail lights and blinkers? Any advice and help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks guys!

I found out that the head lights work regardless of the toggle switch. I can run a new wire from the radiator fan and get it working, How can I tell if a fusable link is bad or not? How do I check it?

Yes, so check the connector in that location (hidden by the shroud) for a partial disconnect or broken wire.

The previous owner was unwilling or unable to repair it the correct way.

The stock headlight switch might be defective.

Power for the Taillights pass thru the Headlight Switch so you might cure 2 problems at once by replacing it.

To find out if it needs replacement use a voltmeter or test light
(the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) to probe the 12 AWG red wire Going to the headlight switch.

Is there power there?

If no, check for a bad fusible link near the battery.

If there is power on the the
red wire put the switch in the headlights ON position.

Probe the
yellow wire at the switch.

Is there power there?

FAN:

You can start by seeing if the Fan Relay, and circuitry past that, is good.

The Fan Relay is to the left of the Brake Booster.

It’s the relay nearest the left fender.

With the key in the RUN position, use a jumper wire with a 1 amp fuse in line, to ground the
green wire with a
White stripe.

Did the fan run when you did that?

First check all bulbs, to make sure they are the correct type, and installed correctly.

A common mistake is people installing 2 filament bulbs 180° rotated.

If all bulbs and side markers are good, replace the Signal Flasher.

The turn Signal Flasher is clipped onto the fuse panel, as delivered from the factory.

The Fuse Panel is located behind a door which is up and to the left of the brake pedal.

However if it has been replaced it might just be hanging in the maze of wires.

It could be stuffed in back of wires in which you will have to remove the knee bolster.

It’s round and approximately 1¼” diameter.

Probe both sides of the ACC fuse and the LID fuse.

Is there power on both sides?

WIPERS:

With the key in the run position, probe both sides of the WPR fuse.

Is there power on both sides?

Probe both sides, one at a time.

If it is good there will be power on both sides.

If it is bad there will be power on one side.

Re: Multitasking

I followed what you guys said to the letter. Turns out that the turn signal switch WAS bad, but the flasher switch was shot AND the headlight switch was bad too. The idiot that had the car before me tried running a speaker wire from the radio's hot wire to the head lights with a toggle switch between them. That's the most ignorant thing I think I've ever see! LOL
Thanks for the advice! I wouldn't have it working without your help.
Now all I gotta do is figure out the power windows, wipers and rear hatch switch. LOL
Then I can move on to fun stuff like upgrading the suspension, engine, trans, rear end, bodywork and then I'll be done. LOL
