question about vats...
i have a 1991 Camaro with a 305 tbi sometimes it will start fine an others u go out an nothing...so I figured its the typical vats problem....so my question is how do u bypass it? I have read about getting the resistance off the key an making a resistor an cutting the 2 white wires under the dash on the column an soldering the resistor there at the proper plug....my other question is don't u have to bypass the starter also for the vats to be completely bypassed? or am I wrong?

Yes. There are two wires... Maybe yellow and green. Take the wiring harness out and connect the wires. My 89 was doing the same thing. No issues now.

If you do the resistor trick you don't need to touch the relay assuming it is working correctly.
All the resistor does is " fool " the VATS module into thinking you are using the correct key , you are only " bypassing" the key being read
If you have VATS module , wiring or enable relay problems then the resistor will do zilch

My problem wasn't with the resistor in the key. It was working fine so "fooling" the VATS with a resistor would have been futile for me. My relay was bad.
I don't think you need to ground anything. The is a green wire going in and a yellow wire going in. Cut them and connect them. Now the VATS system doesn't do anything. I'm not 100% on the colors.

Re: question about vats...
Vats also takes out the injectors so if you have VATS fault bypassing the enable relay will allow the engine to crank but not fire up

Re: question about vats...
I have done the resistor trick under the dash...someone had already done it but the resistor was too high for it....but now since ive put the one I made into it its been workin fine so far....
