Cruisin’ For A Fusin’
The CRANK fuse protects part of the Airbag System, and part of the ECM.
Make sure your TAIL fuse is no more than 20 amps.
Make sure the Fuse Block has not been messed with by the PO.
Look for amateurish or sloppy wiring near the Fuse Block.

Re: crank fuse keeps poping
Got a factory Electric fuel pump ??
Was the car originally an Iron duke ?
Are you SURE it's an 84 ?? ( have to ask ! )
Engine swap ?
Harness swap ??
On 'iron duke' Thirdgens the HOT wire leading to the CRANK fuse is factory spliced off the purple starter wire. When the key is turned to RUN the fuse accepts voltage and passes it thru to the ECM ( only while key is turned to RUN ).
If your car is/was originally an 'HO' than it probably got/had an factory electric fuel pump. If the CRANK fuse is blowing than it could be the purple wire from the Starter Solenoid to the CRANK fuse ( passes thru C100),...... the purple wire from the CRANK fuse to the Fuel Pump Relay (passes out thru C207),........the Relay itself could have failed,........ or; the TAN/WHITE wire leading from the Relay to the fuel tank ( passes back in thru C207 ) could be touching body ground somewhere.
Mid-eighties Fuel Injected cars used the CRANK fuse to feed the cold start injector. During 90-92 the CRANK fuse was still sending voltage to the ECM - and as NINA says - it was factory spliced and feeds power to the Air Bag DERM during 'start-up'.

The CRANK fuse is ( should not be ) related to the lighting in ANY way. It's only purpose is to 'signal' various electrical parts that you turned the key to RUN.

Re: crank fuse keeps poping
If it's a V8 carb WITHOUT an electric fuel pump - it should not have a CRANK fuse.
If the car was originally an HO ( Engine code ?? ) you might still have an electric pump in the tank - or perhaps just the wiring for it.
