89 Iroc Accessory Power Issues
89 Iroc Accessory Power Issues
Hey all, picked up an 89 iroc for the 15 year old and I to work on. Project car...seemed like a
Car supposedly ran when parked last fall, but was overheating. There is deffinately a chevy v8 in it but not sure which one yet. Not the main issue currently and becoming a real head scratcher.
Put in a new ignition lock cylinder because felt like tumblers were bad and the ignition powers inside(dash lights and what not) were not coming on. The ignition lock in not mounted back in the column yet. Thought maybe the actuator switch that inserts in the back of the ignition lock cylinder; this iroc I find has a mechanical actuator that seems to run down to a switch somewhere else. The power did come on once, in the tries of turning the actuator with needle nose pliers but when I turned the ignition to start power cut out and has not come on sense. We need to get the power on to see about starting the engine to evaluate it and see if it needs rebuilt; thinking head gaskets and valve cover gaskets at the least right now. I have the chilton's on this car but it does not break down the mechanics of the ignition and where and how the mystery switch is located/works.
Anyone have this issue besides us?

Re: 89 Iroc Accessory Power Issues
the actual switch is mounted on the top of the steering column near the brake pedal.theres a rod that hooks it to the key switch.also check the fusable links at the starter. i had one burn in half on a 1984 camaro i had.
