Re: TURN SIGNAL WILL NOT FLASH AND MORE..

You have two separate Flashers, one is for the hazards and the other is for the turn signals. The Flasher for the turn signals is in the "convenience center." It is in a somewhat awkward place, in the drivers side foot well all the way towards the transmission tunnel. It's not an obvious spot if you ask me. When I bought my first thirdgen twelve years ago I remember having a time finding the turn signal flasher.

Re: TURN SIGNAL WILL NOT FLASH AND MORE..

Turn signal issue is likely a bad ground or a burnt out bulb. Check all of your bulbs first. Next try turning on the turn signal in the direction it is not working and turn the headlights on. If you have a bad ground, some of the lights will go dim or go out with the headlights on. You might even notice weird things like the backup lights turn on. Depending which lights are affected, this will tell us which part of the circuit is bad.

Your speedometer is pulse driven. Meaning just applying voltage to it isn't really going to make it work (may possibly even damage the it?). Anyways what you really should try is measuring frequency not voltage. Since it is such a small signal it may not measure reliably. Do you have any trouble codes? Does the cruise control (if you have it) work? Could be the buffer box or the gauge itself.

We already know that the bulbs are good because the hazards function properly and the second filament in the bulb lights up when the turn signals are applied. This would also disclude the wiring from at least the C100 bulk head connector forward. If it were a bad ground it would be a ground underneath the driver's side dash which is highly unlikely. Most plausible is the el cheapo turn signal flasher which is probably the stock 22 year old piece.

Re: TURN SIGNAL WILL NOT FLASH AND MORE..

Well that not quite true. First off, is it possible its the flasher bulb? Sure. Still, I think its likely something else and its easy to prove for $0 and minimal effort. These turn signal set ups are not quite so straight forward. For example the front fender turn signals don't actually have a "ground" per say. They use a series of bulbs in parallel and opposing voltages to turn on and off. This is why the turn signals actually flash in different patterns when the headlights are on and off. With the hazards on all lights are illuminated where as with turn signals one side is. If you had a bad ground for example, power could actually back feed through these lights where as it could not if the hazards were on since there is also 12v applied here. Not to mention he did only say the hazards flashed, he did not say whether or not it was at the normal rate.

So you're saying that if this were your car the first thing you would do is start to chase down loose wires and look for bad grounds which could take anywhere from ten minutes to a few hours vs 60 sec and $5 to change the turn signal flasher? To each there own.

Re: TURN SIGNAL WILL NOT FLASH AND MORE..

Negative, I would verify all the lights work properly in all positions headlights on or off. $0 no trip to the parts store almost 0 effort. Doesn't get much easier than that?
