Remote Start and Alarm

Hey I dont post much but I have a question. I have 1986 Firebird with 305 carbed motor. I have read old posts and some say remote starters dont work with carbed setup. Is that true and if it is false what remote starters are you using on your cars? Need advice! been looking at python, avital and remote start bulldog systems Which one? I was seriously thinking this: Avital 5303L ALARM AND REMOTE STARTED COMBO WITH 2 WAY REMOTE

Re: Remote Start and Alarm

If your car is tuned up and starts right away, a remote start will work. Get one that allows you to set the delay from activation to crank and also allows you to set the crank time.

What I mean by "activation to crank" is: you want to be able to control the amount of time between when the the ignition comes on and the starter actually engages. That gives the fuel pump time to cycle before the starter cranks.

Anti-grind sends the signal to disengage the starter once it senses that the engine is running.

Re: Remote Start and Alarm

The main issue is, on FI cars, when you push the "start" on the remote start, the fuel pump primes the injectors immediately and the car will start. On carbed cars, more likely than not, the fuel has retreated down the fuel line a bit and since the mechanical pump doesn't start pumping until the engine is cranking, it may take a while for it to start, if it ever does. This will be especially problematic if the vehicle sits for a while and the bowls get low. This is when you'd typically pump the gas pedal to help start the car. The remote start can't "pump" the pedal. You would need some say to ensure the gas doesn't retreat down the line, i.e. a one-way valve inline to the carb. However, such a device would ruin the fuel-return ability of your fuel system.
