Dash oil and temp signals - voltage signals?

Hi folks,

I'm working on a project to make electronics for a KITT dash and am wondering if anyone has any info about the oil pressure and temperature signals on a 3rd gen Firebird.

I know the fuel gauage is an Ohm signal with 90 Ohms representing a full tank.

Are the oil and temp signals voltage signals? With 12V for max temp and max oil pressure? If not, does anyone know how I might find out?

Thanks in advance

Yes, they both use voltage signals. However, it's only 5v, not 12v. The 5v reference signal is provided by the ECM.

Great! Thanks a million - that's what I wanted to know!

Do you know where I'd find details of the speedo signal? I know it's a pulsed signal.

Thanks again

Totally wrong !

To the OP , I PROMISE you that the ECM has exactly NOTHING to do with the functioning of the gauges in question !!!!!!

Hey Orangebird - thanks for this. austinthirdgen.com doesn't appear to exist and http://www.austinthirdgen.org/ is giving me errors. You wouldn't happen to have an alternative link or even send them on to me if you have them stored locally?

Edit: Never mind - I found this (on this site) http://www.austinthirdgen.org/mkport...uges_part2.gif

Looks like they're all Ohm signals.

Anyone know if they're 90 Ohm like the fuel gauge?

Cool , You found it ! Now , as you can see , there is no ECM involvement in the gauges . As to the Ohm ratings my best suggestion is to get an ohm meter and measure the senders . The temp sender I'd measure stone cold , and then at operating temp , the oil with the engine not running , and then with it running (right after having been started cold , when the oil pressure would be it's highest) . This would give you the approximate operating ranges for the senders and I hope that's what you were needing ?

Sorry about that. I was looking at the wiring diagram for the coolant temp sensor for the fans, not the gauges.
