Wiring Trivia Game for 85 Firebird - Big Prizes!!!
Well not really big prizes, but you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you know more than others
In the middle of my overhaul of my 85 TransAM's Engine/trans/interior/electrical/body/car PC project and need to identify a few items as to their purpose, and requirements.
First up, the magic white box on my B&M shifter....
What's it for and what does it do?

Next up, what are these two switch units for at the end of the steering column?
My guess is one is the brake light swtich, and the other with the vacuum hose is the cruise control cutoff switch?
If this is the case, can I remove all cruise control gear without affecting anything else?

Lastly a picture of where I'm up to:

Yep!!!
And you should've seen it before the tumbleweed of spare/redundant wiring came out from the RHD conversion.
I still have to unravel the dash harness and re-run everything, but when I'm done hopefully I'll know where each wire runs to, what it does, and remove everything else.

Haha, yeah I have the pdf version, I had the original but it's in my ex's storage and not worth the trouble.
I did get a subscription to the Mitchell1 thing as well to get some more diagrams.
I've got a 98 dash mould for RHD and the 97 cluster to go in it which will be wired up, and hopefully all work with the 98 PCM but we'll see.

Looking at this made me scratch my head for a minute....... then I realized that it's an export or "right hand drive" F-Body !!!
First pic is an aftermarket Neutral Safety switch. The factory switch will not work with the B&M so it had to be changed.
Next; The 2 switches are mounted to the pedals,... not the column. You're correct, 1 is for brake lights and the other is for Cruise. You can disconnect the cruise and nothing else will be effected.

Thanks John, that's a few less things to worry about.
Why does the neutral safety switch need 6 wires?
Yeah the car was converted to right hand drive for Australian roads.
I've just got to source the issue of 2 last problems, the brakes don't work when the headlights are on, the taillights illuminate though, I'm thinking the wires are around the wrong way.
And when the alarm is activated, only the front left blinker blinks, but when hazards are on all blink, and indicators work correctly.

IIRC:
1 power from fuse-box/ignition
1 power to the Starter solenoid
2 for Reverse lights
1 ECM ( TCC? )
1 ground

Re: Wiring Trivia Game for 85 Firebird - Big Prizes!!!
Well I figured out the brakes. The brake light switch was wired to the same brown wire that triggers the tail lights, and the light blue wire for the brake switch was a 2 parter, first the wire was broken before the connector, and then the connector didn't have a wire on the other side.
I've run a new wire from the connector to the brake switch and now that's all working great.
I've removed the cruise control from the dash and under the bonnet, so now all electrical issues are solved, and it's tidying up time.
Also does anyone have the wiring diagram or the pinouts for the 2 plugs from the tpi harness that plug into the body harness?, the ABCDEFGH and JKLMNPR plugs?
I know the thick brown white wire goes to the fuel pump, but that's about it.

Fanastic!
Thanks for that.
I've got a spare 165ECM harness so I might chop the end connectors off that to wire in and make it easier if I ever have to swap from x24 0411 PCM back to 165ECM.
