83 t/a tach not working after cap and rotor changed
So I decided to change the cap and rotor on my t/a. Put it all back together and fired it up and noticed my tach is reading 5500rpm. It creeps past 6000 rpm and the just kinda goes where ever it wants. On one note , I never disconnected the battery during the cap and rotor change. Did I fry something?? If I did , where do I start looking?

^^^^^^What THAT says! And make sure the 2 wire connector is plugged in and is making a good connection.

So the white wire to the distributor is the signal wire for the tach right? And the red wire adjacent to it powers the coil?

Ok. Well I know where to look...I had those particular connectors apart and back together thinking one of them isnt connecting...so I popped the cap off the coil and pushed the prongs down into the connector to makes sure they didnt get pushed back when I plugged the connectors in. Still no change . Wtf!

A Tach Plan
If the engine runs you but the tach won’t, it’s not the coils’ fault.
Find out if you’re getting a signal on the WHITE wire by putting spare marker bulb and speaker in series with the WHITE
wire and ground.
If the WHITE wire has a signal you will hear it as a buzz that increases with RPM.
