trying to wire alternator

i just replaced the battery, alternator and starter and now im having trouble wiring it all. i have the battery positive to the starter large terminal and the alternator outlet wire to the same place. when i try to hook the positive terminal to the battery i get alot of sparks. is this normal? where should the battery negative be grounded. is it grounded in the wrong spot or not grounded at all?

Re: trying to wire alternator

You can usually find a rubber boot that covers it. Most auto parts stores carry them and they come stock on nearly every car.
