trying to wire alternator
i just replaced the battery, alternator and starter and now im having trouble wiring it all. i have the battery positive to the starter large terminal and the alternator outlet wire to the same place. when i try to hook the positive terminal to the battery i get alot of sparks. is this normal? where should the battery negative be grounded. is it grounded in the wrong spot or not grounded at all?

i found out that i blew out the stock alternator output wire. i made a new one with ten gauge wire. no matter which point i touch the output wire to i get lots of sparks from where i touch it too. i have no idea what is wrong or how to fix it. please help if any of you know whats wrong.

Re: trying to wire alternator
so the alternator was grounding to the valve cover cause it was to close. so i banged in the cover abit and put more isulator on the terminal and i was good to go.

Re: trying to wire alternator
You can usually find a rubber boot that covers it. Most auto parts stores carry them and they come stock on nearly every car.
