I just installed my megashifter in my car and I am looking at the B&M wiring instructions now. They are very confusing to say the least. I called B&M support and got nothing. I searched this site and was more confused than ever.
So, with that said, I wanted to get a thread going to help support people that "dont do wiring" by posting pics when Im done. But I need your support to get this CLEAN thread full of good/informative information to pass on in the future.
I will get good pics to document this procedure and hopefully we can cut out some of the confusion people have trying to wire one of these shifters.
Questions:
Do I need a relay or not?
My shifter never came with this elusive relay and I see people buying them from Radio Shack, but why wouldnt they just add that to the kit?
Can I just wire the 4 wires to the micro switches?
There are two blade connectors on each micro switch, which is "in" and which is "out" ? or does it matter?
I answered one of my own questions.
The relay is only to retain L/U in a lock up converter. (Im assuming most of you have if stock)
Mine is a N/L converter (non lock) so I will be wiring as instructed without the relay.

So to clarify, that relay people are buying at RadioShack is to retain 4th gear lock up?
I got the same Megashifter in my 89 GTA. Not sure about the V6, but it is STRONGLY recommended to have it hooked up if you doe have the 700R4 transmission. If you need help wiring it in I would be happy to explain how its hooked up as I did it for mine.

Mine is being shipped now, I'm fairly sure I'll be able to wire it but I haven't seen the diagram yet so I'll keep in touch if I'm confused on that. What I'm really confused is, what do I need that the kit doesn't come with? I read another thread where I could of sworn I saw that you need to buy 2 relays instead of just the one mentioned in this thread. I have a 86 trans am with a lock up 700r4. Thanks
I didnt have to use the relay because I have a N/L converter. I am done with the install and love this shifter. Had one in another car (Z28) and loved it too.
Make sure the micro switches are not activating when you pull your shifter from side to side. I had to bend the tabs on each micro switch to prevent them from clicking when not in use.

Same here. Those little switches needed to be bent slightly so they wouldn't stay open all the time. Also for the locker the supplied relay that comes with the mega shifter is all you will need. I would recommend getting some wire and some crimp on connectors so you can hook everything up. The supplied crimp on connectors are crap.
My megashifter just came in yesterday, after looking at the diagram it doesnt seem too bad, my only question is what do I ground the wire coming from the neutral safety switch too? the diagram shows it passing through the relay but there's nothing for it to pass through on the actual relay.

Just ground it to metal. There should already be a wire from your stock switch thats grounded nearby somewhere on the shifter assembly

Hey, I wired it wrong somewhere, it keeps blowing my turn signal fuse. my 4way hazard lights still work so that system is fine. you wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the instal would you?
If you are blowing a fuse then wires are touching. You need to make sure there isn't wires touching. The wiring diagram here illustrates how you need to hook up the supplied relay.
In the stock plug you got 6 wires. Black/White 18G, Orange/Black 18G, dark blue 18g, light green 18g, purple 10g and yellow 10g (Again this is how mine was set up.) Could you post some pictures of how your stock transmission shifter plug looked like? And the wires for it.

Hey thanks I figured it out already, I was jumping terminals A1 and A2 like an idiot. My turn signals and reverse lights are working and the shifter is doing great. Thanks again
Sounds great! Its a great shifter! I would also recommend oiling or placing a light grease on the shifter base Or painting the lower half if you havent installed it already. The problem is the lower metal of the shifter is not stainless steel or chromed so it will rust. Painting it will prevent it from rusting out on you and getting stiffer later on. Up to you though.

Thanks for the tip, I'll probably end up doing that in a week or two. I gotta do some other things to the car first.
