Hey everyone,
I am currently prepping my 92 rs 305/t5 car for a 5.3 swap. I have everything out of the car minus the chassis harness. The previous owner hacked the harness under the dash up pretty bad. There were connectors not going to anything, several wires spliced together improperly...its an absolute mess to say the least(attached a pic of what im looking at now). After seeing this, and being at the point where the car is basically a shell and the wires, I am thinking a painless harness would be the way to go. Can anybody shed some knowledge for me on how to set myself up the best knowing that a 5.3 swap is in the future. Any help would be greatly appreciated, like I said i'm new to figuring all this stuff out and kind of learning as I am going along. BTW- I will not be running A/C, no power windows or door locks, only basic things like lights and whatever ill need to run for an ls swap. Thanks in advance
Re: Help a new guy out! Painless harness for 5.3 swap
Ouch... that looks horrid. From my personal experience, go with OEM if you can find a harness for cheap. I re-did an 87 z28 with a factory harness i pulled from an IROC. my 89 GTA on the other hand I did in fact go with a painless. My advice, do your research! Before even putting it in the car, figure out where everything goes. I went with the pro-street chassis harness because of the accessories I want to add. the 28 circuit harness will have everything. heck they even have an LS swap harness that should work
Re: Help a new guy out! Painless harness for 5.3 swap
Thank you for the reply, I will look into the pro street harness. My main goal is to eliminate wiring to any systems I won't need and clean up the wiring so I know it will be good to go. At the same time I want to make it so wiring a 5.3 will be simple by the time I get to that point.
