Straight answers for pegged oil pressure gauge desired

I can't find a wiring diagram in my 3 books for my car... they seem to think the '85 camaro V8 only came carbed. Well mine is the stock TPI.

I've tried reading posts about this problem and get more confused. Which is in the back of the engine and which is by the oil filter?

My gauge used to work sparatically but would always return to pegged. It's stayed pegged way beyond 60psi for months now. I'd be nice to have it working.

Someone give me some straight answers in what goes on exactly where the sending unit is, what color wire, etc!? THANKS!!!!

Was just under the oil filter while changing oil. I don't see any wires except my plug wires.... and a little wire harness with a green and tan wire going into some black connector then continuing out of site. Nothing accessable here like what I've understood as a sending unit.....

From all the thirdgens I've seen the oil pressure sending unit is just above the oil filter. It's on the block (drivers side obviously) and looks like a small tin can. That is the sending unit. Their are a couple wires down on that side of the bock. I believe there is also the water temp gauge which is in the drivers side head.
Definatly sounds like you've got either a shorted wire going from the gauge to the sending unit or the sending unit is bad. It isn't a really hard job, when you change your oil, before installing the filter, just reach up a litther further and you should see the sending unit. Unplug harness, unscrew and install new unit.

My 89 Formula TBI had 2 oil pressure sending units.
#1 was just above the oil filter and only controlled the electric fuel pump, it was some sort of safety cutoff.
#2 was about the size of a large soup can and was located behind the air cleaner in the vicinity of the distributor cap. This one did control the guage. My Chiltons says to look for a Tan wire, but as usual I'm sure that isn't of much help. When my sending unit went it blew oil everywhere and so I had a mechanic replace it, sorry I can't be of more assistance.

88 and earlier (not sure about carb) have it behind the block, near the distributor. 89-92 have it above the oil filter. On both its screwed into a hole in the block.
