88' IROC Camaro Service Engine Soon Code (Help)

Hey guys, my Camaro has the service engine soon light on so I did the paperclip trick. I think its a code 15 and 21, but I'm not sure. Could someone translate the sequence of lights?

You have these codes ; 12 , 33 , 36 .

The way it works is that code 12 is a sort of "check code" , code 12 tells you basically that it's in test mode and that will be followed by your actual fault codes which are 33 and 36 . It starts by flashing code 12 three times , then in succession if there are any it flashes the trouble codes , each three times , and then it starst over at code 12 , repeating till you turn off the key . If you had no codes all it would have flashed was 12 .

Now I don't offhand remember but somewhere between those codes (33 and 36) I think there may be a MAF code but a search of "codes" should turn up a chart of which code means what .

Thanks a bunch OrangeBird, I knew about it flashing 12 three times but I'm not good at interpreting how long the lights are and such. I looked up the codes and it is the mass airflow sensor, here is a website of all the codes https://repairpal.com/gm-obd-I-code-chart. Thanks for the help though!

You might want to look at the wiring ground

Where would that be located? How would I fix these codes, they are headaches to my understanding.

Also, is the mass airflow sensor located on the intake? If not there where is it located?

I didn’t watch the video. If it’s 15 & 21 check the common ground. If it’s 33 and 36

This is where a bit of automotive electrical troubleshooting is gonna be needed . Ok , so those are MAF codes , but here's the thing , they could be telling you your MAF has failed , OR they could be telling you the circuits feeding power to , or taking readings from , your MAF have failed and in reality the MAF itself could be OK . There are definite checks you can do with a voltmeter to determine if the MAF is at least getting the 12 volts it needs to function before you replace the MAF .

Oh , and the MAF will be one of the ducts that brings the air from your engine's air cleaner to it's throttle body . It'll have a harness with 5 wires plugged into the side of it .....

I did watch the video and I'm sure it's 33 and 36

Oh , and Funkman , Tuned Performance has posted the diagnostic flow charts you'll need to troubleshoot this , if you've got a voltmeter you should be able to follow those charts and determine the failed component(s)
