1991 Camaro RS tach issues

So I like many had the issue where my tach wouldn’t read properly, didn’t really work at all to be honest, so I ordered an after market board, one designed better than the OEM ones and unfortunately my problem is still there. I’m starting the wonder of the issue isn’t actually the tach, but something else, I’m no sure where to start looking though so if anyone has any ideas on where to start looking, they would be greatly appreciated.

My tach typically doesn’t move off of 2000rpm, but every now and then when I’m driving it will jump past redline when I’m cruising at normal rpms (1500-2000rpm).

My car is a 1991 RS with a 400sbc, tbi, 5 speed t5.
