bypass A/C compressor on defrost?
My apologies if this has been asked before and I didn't find it in my search.
Anyways, I would like to bypass the compressor being activated (and the A/C) when I turn on the defrost. Saves loads of fuel without the A/C on! My older vehicles never had this "feature" and wondered if it's possible to disable it or perhaps install a custom switch to turn on/off when needed/not needed? Thanks!
Can't remember if it's in my profile or not so... 1992 Heritage Edition RS Camaro, 305ci, w/ A/C (obviously), A/T, P/S, P/B, P/W, P/L

Install a switch in series with the light green wire from the HVAC mode selector.

Not sure why you would want to do this...the dehumidification of the air going to the defrost vents help immensely in keeping the windshield clear of fog.
but, probably the simplest thing would be to simply install a switch, so you could manually disable the power going to the electrical clutch at the compressor.

Then the warm air from the heater core is sufficient to maintain the defogging.
The aforementioned is more applicable in winter type weather where you want to keep hot air blowing onto the windshield.
The switch as mentioned in post #2 will give him the option to have the comp running only when required.
Even in today’s crazy computer controlled HVAC systems, there is a still a pushbutton allowing the driver to turn the comp off even if the mode selector is in the defog or defrost position.
