Im not sure if my car has or never had a trunk closing motor. I saw some videos on YouTube and some owners have a little motor next to the trunk latch which pulls down the trunk. I took a few pictures but I don't know too much. Does anyone know if my model had it? Or if there is a place to mount it? 86 camaro sports coupe ... ALSO what is this thing? The metal thing and clear thing in my hand..

Re: Trunk latch motor?
That's what's left of the hatch pulldown. Looks like you need pretty much the entire assembly. The nylon slides that ride in the tracks are MIA. The clear plastic housing is cracked (common). The plastic gear nut is busted (common). All the hardware (pivot pin & keeper/nut, bolts, etc) is missing... Reversing switch is gone... All the wiring is hacked...

Could probably take a look at http://www.top-downsolutions.com/hatch-pull-down-items for repair parts or see if he offers a rebuilt assembly, or look at Ebay, or post a want ad in the classifieds, or you might find a less hosed pulldown assembly in the junkyard, but you can probably expect that any assembly that hasn't already been rebuilt, will need to be rebuilt. Some of the bits can be had from Rock Auto, like the motors and housing parts, but with as much as you're missing, probably just as easy to start from scratch.

Re: Trunk latch motor?
I'm with Drew. Start with Lon at Top Down Solutions. As indicated in my thread, I bought my repair parts through him, and was very happy. If he can't help with a whole assembly, check the For Sale section here on TGO, or ebay.

Even if you find a whole assembly, you'll probably want some new guides, and they will need to be sanded to fit. I had to hit mine pretty hard on a belt sander to make them work.

Re: Trunk latch motor?
I second (third?) Top Down Solutions - I rebuilt my hatch pull down with all the specially reinforced parts from Lon and it works excellent.

Hawks Third Gen likely has used assemblies, as well as Ebay. And many members here have parts cars. Have 5 parts cars myself but not sure on viable hatch motors.

Anything you get used you will want to rebuild/reinforce as they are all 30 yesrs old and were prone to the gears stripping anyway. All the old brittle plastic makes them a virtual time bomb.

Re: Trunk latch motor?
Sadly I was hit hard this past week with orders and am currently out of stock on two parts he needs (TDS 206280 86-87 STRIKER SENSING SWITCH, TDS 207180 88-91 STRIKER SENSING SWITCH and TDS 205180 REVERSING SWITCH). I do have the gear nut TDS 109111, guides TDS 101170, REINFORCED HOUSING TDS 103121. But in his case, since he's also missing the motor, he can go with the new style motor TDS 201170 which includes the reinforced housing portion too. Hey guys, a reminder, please send back your reversing switch cores so I can refurbish them and help out another thirdgenner.

Re: Trunk latch motor?
A website called ThirdGenRanch.com had complete motors for only $75 as of yesterday 7/18/19

Also go onto facebook and join the 3rd Gen Firebird and Camaro Parts group. They have a lot of good leads for future issues.

I'm Brian Daniel in there. Shoot me a message and say hi. I'm always happy to meet another 3rd Gen owner. I've got a Formula.
