Relay missing?

Hi all
I just bought fuses and thought to look at my relay box. It looks like I'm missing one? Does anyone have a picture of what it's supposed to look like so I can go off of that? Also does anyone know where I can buy a set of new relays?
Here's a Pic!

If everything electrical works , your fine

I see your car is a base model (Sports Coup) and as such it's likely that there are options that the more embellished models will have that yours does not have . Things like rear window defrosters for example . Also , sometimes the same relay box will be used in different model cars altogether that have options our cars don't .

PS , no picture is showing from what I can see ....

Re: Relay missing?

"Convenience Center" is what GM calls that organizer. If you pinch the tabs to the lower right corner of the pic, it sorta swings down so you can get at it without taking out screws.

The 7 pin connector at the bottom is for the "Chime Module" or "Audio Warning". Whatever you want to call it, it makes the buzzing, dinging, chime, whatever when you open the driver's door with the key still in the ignition, or with the lights on, and when you don't have your seat belt buckled on startup. It's really common for people to remove it so they don't have to listen to the seatbelt buzzer. If you want to put it back in, it's usually a blue or black box. The place to get one is from virtually any GM car/truck from about the same time period. Best to stick to a Camaro or Firebird donor.

The other two I'm not sure about. I'd have to dig out an owners manual and I don't have time at the moment. The white box is the horn relay, the yellow is either the turn signal flasher or hazard flasher. The empty spots may have held the other flasher, or it may be hanging under the dash by the fuse block under the column. Usually it's a metal can plugged into a red or pink 2 wire plug. Generally speaking there's always going to be wiring and extra sockets for options the car doesn't have. Or in some cases the convenience center plastic base is used in a bunch of GM cars, and not all cars use all the spaces.

Thank you so much for the info! I'll be sure to replace the missing relays!

Re: Relay missing?

I have to correct myself... After looking in a few owners manuals, the Convenience Center isn't pictured. At least not in the 1983, 1987 Camaro, and 1986 Firebird manuals. I had to go to the 87 Camaro Electrical Supplement Service Manual to find the C-center diagram. The Yellow is the Hazard Light Flasher. White is Horn Relay. And the empty spot at the bottom is for the Audio Alarm. By the book, the other two spaces weren't used in 87. 86 is close enough it's probably safe to assume it's the same as 87, but I don't have an 86 manual on hand to verify.

Here's a 1991 chime box. I've also seen them in white and blue. Pretty sure my 86s all had the blue module, but all from 82-92 should plug right in. Generally speaking, the noise generated by the box got less irritating in later years. Like the early cars generate a shrill BUZZZZZING noise, later cars have a softer DING - DING - DING.

And the obligatory reference that pops into my head every time I say "Chime Box"... No more chimes. Tommy don't chime shoes anymore.

What movie is that? I've never seen it or heard of that phrase so I'd love to see it.
Also, is there a alarm relay that sounds modern? I'd like to replace it but it sounds like it's a very obnoxious and anoyying sound... I'd like a sound though.

Re: Relay missing?

One of the first things I did was pull the chime box, or door buzzer. So annoying.

Required viewing.

Try to find one from as late a thirdgen as you can, for the least offensive to the senses. Without the box, it's easy to leave the lights on, or accidentally lock keys in the car.

Maybe she didn't hear about it, she's been away a long time, they didn't go up there and tell her?
