I honestly don’t know
So over the past four days I have been battling with doing a torque converter swap on my 1987 Pontiac Firebird 2.8 V6 the torque converter went in and it seems to go into gear well but all of a sudden the engine starts messing really bad to the point where it will shut itself off and won’t idle it seems like it’s getting fuel because when I would spray brake clean it in there nothing would change but I don’t Believe it is getting spark all the time the only thing I did was take off the distributor cap, and now while typing this I realize that maybe that little spring in there could make it do that but it just seems so weird to me… Could it be a messed up ground from when I took out the Trans, Any and all help would be appreciated

Stock torque converter? if its locking up on you it can stall the engine. Does it do it if you are on flat ground and just let it drive at idle speed?
Yes if you had the cap off and the parts are old the contacts on the rotor could of gotten messed up. Its also possible to put the cap on 180 degrees off on the V6 I think. Did you have the wires off the cap? could you have gotten the firing order wrong?
There is a ground strap on the back of the engine/heads but I doubt you messed that up, but worth looking.
Possible you messed with the timing or left something unplugged if you were messing around the distributor.
Also you could of moved a plug wire so it melted on the header.
A good visual inspection of everything should rule out alot.

Re: I honestly don’t know
I figured out what it was today. My “friend” broke my distributor cap but didn’t wanna make me mad apparently so just left it and it wasn’t sparking in cylinders 2,3 or 5 so that was fun! Thank you all for your help!
