Fuel pump ugh!!!!!!!!!

Got a 91rs just dropped a 86-95 350vortec in it. Also fixed the fuel sending unit where the float arm wasn't attached correctly. Got the tank back up and plugged the pump wires in tested and voila....

Got the car put back together and tried the fp. Found that I had a low batt. Changed battery and tried it nothing..... then suddenly voila!!!!!! I had the pressure too high and flooded carb so I shut it off and dried everything.... the next day I had the pressure down to 5.5 and tried it, nothing .... I check for power at fuses, manual switch, it is no longer routed thru relay it's a fused switch directly to the grey wire to the fp plug behind the rear seat, I tested and I have power and ground all the way to the fp plug.

Just for giggles I connected the battery directly to the fp harness to the pump/tank side and you guessed it, nothing....... so off with the tank again....

What the frick could be wrong in the tank? It's a brand new ac delco, new filter, and strainer, and it worked well good enough to flood the carb, intake and the cylinders. I even changed battery again just to make sure....

Re: Fuel pump ugh!!!!!!!!!

I think I know why I didn't get any replies... I guess it's got to be obvious. It's either a bad fp or a loose wire on the sending unit....

I have a brand new sending unit on the shelf in the barn........

I wish I didn't have to take all this stuff back apart but I'd rather for it to happen now than out on the highway or with my wife driving it.... thx

Re: Fuel pump ugh!!!!!!!!!

bad grounds are a pain. we have all been there spending hours diagnosing things and taking stuff apart only to have the problem caused by a faulty ground

You could always install the trap door in the floor pan while you have it apart to avoid the tank pull for fuel pump work, though personally I don't like cutting holes in the floor pan. I've done enough electronics that I typically start my diagnostics by checking the grounds.
