How many wires go to the starter?
How many wires go to the starter?
Hey everyone,
I just bought a 1991 Camaro RS 305 TBI for 900 bucks - it was a huge mess and the guy was a moron who pulled pretty much everything electrical inside and outside. I replaced the starter and noticed that there was just a wire with nothing on it in that cluster. It was just exposed and I have no idea what it goes to. I was wondering if maybe it pulled out of a circular wire crimp for the starter. I attached 2 larger wires to the larger stud on the starter and 1 smaller wire to the smaller stud. Is this right (having 3 wires on the starter?)? I may just redo the wiring harness off of a junkyard profile. First post FTW!

Might help if you post in the appropriate sub-forum, a starter wouldn't really be considered "electronics". Might ask a mod to move this thread, or just start a new one

Re: How many wires go to the starter?
That sounds like roughly the correct #.
The wire to the S terminal should be purple and have a small ring; the 2 (or however many) that go to the big stud along with the batt cable should be fusible links with large terminals. The FLs should probably be "rust" color (a dull brownish-orange... their color is the code for their gauge) and should be at the end of #12 or #10 red wires. There might be a smaller one also, that goes to the ECM; not sure about that one. If the car runs without such a thing, there probably isn't one.
