Where to mount power distribution block

Adding a power distribution block to clean up my battery terminal and make my wiring more organized and easier to follow. But I can't decide if I should mount the block to my driver side in front of the wheel well or the firewall near the brake booster? I plan to run the feed for it up front in the channel forward of my radiator.
The block will have my amp, fuel pump power feed (to a relay), and later plan on installing electric fans.
My concerns of course are accidental grounding when working on car, water, and ease of access.

This is the style distribution block I plan to use.

What have you guys done that works well?

I like the location of the factory distribution block. Out of the way, protected from accidental contact.

It's good practice to keep the distribution block close to the battery. Mine is mounted on the inner fender right beside the battery. No more exposed than the battery terminals themselves. My branch circuit fusing ( ignition box, fans, fuel pump) is also right there.

Thanks skinny. Do you happen to have a photo of your set up?

Tons of pictures but none which specifically focus on that area. Car is in storage so I can't step into the shop like I used to and snap a picture. Sorry.
I have a block exactly like Dyno Dave's but attached to the inner fender lip about two inches from the passenger side battery. Then a series of fuse holders tailed to the distribution block and then off into a new wiring harness that passes along the inner fender and over to the relay centre near the brake booster.

Re: Where to mount power distribution block

I picked up a small fuse box to use as my distribution block instead. Which of these two places would be better to mount it?

I'll be running a twisted pair of 8 gauge wire from the battery to it. Coming off it I'll have my amp and fuel pump power and down the road dual electric fans.

Closer to the battery tends to be better. However, as long as the supply wire to the fuse block is properly fused, any location would do. To simply the wiring, keeping the block close to the relays or other equipment it supplies isn't a bad idea. Keeps things tidy too.

Re: Where to mount power distribution block

Thanks for the input guys! Those whom ran your wires along the passenger side and across the firewall, what did you use to secure your wire loom and has heat affected it, e.g. made it brittle?

Re: Where to mount power distribution block

From the battery ive got the main wire running inside the pass fender. From the junction block ive got a big red cable inside the cowl over to the fuse block on the driver side firewall.Just using small zip ties to hold the wires in place.

From the block near the battery, the fused wires (several) are in split loom. I've tucked those out of sight along the passenger fender. They pop out just below the heater box. With no AC this is easy otherwise you would have to exit the fender and carry along the top edge of the firewall. As it is, I've kept the harness low behind the distributor. Seems to me some OEM versions duplicate this using the bell housing bolts as supports for the clips. I've some loom clips that use a single screw as a fastener and I picked off existing screws to share along the way to the relay centre near the brake booster. Zip ties work too.
