Temperature Gauge not working

So one of the previous owners of my trans did a hack job at the wiring. I’m in the middle an engine swap so while it’s out I was cleaning and rewiring but I can’t get the stock temperature gauge to work. When I touch the dark green wire to the hot side of the battery the oil pressure gauge moves somehow. Does anyone know why that happens or how I can wire the temp gauge on an 87 trans am with the 140mph instrument cluster. Thanks everyone.

Re: Temperature Gauge not working

I also know that the gauge does in fact work because I took the cluster out and jumped it. I used a gray wire as the ground and it worked but I believe that’s supposed to be for the lights.

Sorry I’m not good at electrical yet.

Re: Temperature Gauge not working

Find the wires. Find the hack job. Undo whatever hackage you find. Hook the right colors back up together.

Not that hard really... the electrons are color-coded. Green ones go to the temp gauge, brown ones to the oil pressure gauge.

Above all, RESIST THE TEMPTATION to "clean up", "splice", "cut", "twist together", "wire up", "run a wire", etc. etc. etc. One good (hahahaha) hack DOES NOT deserve another. Put it back together RIGHT.

Re: Temperature Gauge not working

I should’ve worded this better. I believe the pins in the c1 and c2 connectors are out of place. So can anyone help with diagrams telling me where they go and the colors.
