Power windows

I'm trying to switch to power windows on my 85 Camaro and I have doors and a harness ready but I can't seem to find the connector to the power for the harness under the dash, the harness has 2 pink wires but I don't see a connector for it does anyone know where it is?

Re: Power windows

Which harness do you have? There are two styles (at least). The late cars have a single plug with two or three wires, early cars have a connector that plugs into the distribution block high up under the dash on the driver's kick panel.

If your car doesn't have any power options, you might not have the distribution block, or the power jumper wire that runs from the back of the fuse block to the distribution block to power everything on the list.

Re: Power windows

This is the harness I bought and the owners manual for the car said power windows were a option

Re: Power windows

Yep, pwr windows were an option, but if you don't have any of the options in that first diagram, you might not have the distribution block. Look under the dash on the driver's side. Go up and towards the front a bit from the hood release.

Re: Power windows

Would it be difficult to install if it doesn't have either?

Re: Power windows

Not at all, just get the parts from an early car and they just snap in.

Re: Power windows

So I ended up having the right hook up it was that first box but the pic shows 3 on the right side plugged into there do I need a connector from the fuse box along with the harness for the windows? Because right now it only has 2 plugs with orange wires in it

Re: Power windows

Where it says Pwr Wdo jumper... It's jsut a short pink wire that goes into one of the sockets on the block, then it snaps into the pwr acc socket on the back of the fuse block. I've got one around here somewhere, but I've got a LOT of thirdgen parts around here. I'm not even sure where to start looking.

You could always touch the terminal strip with a test light, and turn the key to run and see if the test light comes on.

Re: Power windows

When I look up the wire or the fuse it's like they don't even exist even on eBay

Re: Power windows

That's because people consider it to be part of the dash harness or pwr accessory harness.

Not the best pic, but there's the jumper wire, or one end of it anyway. The other end has a connector like these that plugs into the back of the fuse block behind the PWR ACC circuit breaker.

If you look close at that last pic, you can see the PWR ACC circuit breaker (tin can) plugged into the top of the fuse block. You'll need the breaker too.

Best bet is to send a note to the guy parting thirdgens in the classifieds, or hit the junkyard. All else fails, make a jumper wire as a last resort.

I had one literally just laying around, but I've got parts stashed literally everywhere, and I must have got tired of moving it and put it "someplace safe", because I can't find it now. LOL
