Cassette player issues

When I try to play a cassette on the stockIstock radio only get sound from the passenger speakers. When I set the balance all the way to the left I get no sound. I already played a demagnetizer/head cleaner in it. Any suggestions?

If you have verified that all the speakers function from a different source (in your case, the radio), then the problem is in the cassette-electronics portion of the unit. The fix will require removal from the vehicle and component-level electronic troubleshooting, not something usually user serviceable.

You'll need to find a repair shop specializing in such work, something not easy to find these days.

Do you know where I could get another nos or refurbished one, or does anyone make new ones that look like the originals?

If the Google doesn't turn up any leads, your next-best chance of finding something will be on this site.

An option would be: Transfer the cassets to CD, and replace the AM-FM-Casset player with an AM-FM-CD player.

You'll be better off in the long run due to the fact your songs will not decrease in quality over time.

Re: Cassette player issues

You're probably right... I just took it in to a shop and we'll see what they can do. I'd rather keep the radio original. I'm not really attracted to any aftermarket stereos that play CD's. They just look too modern and flashy. Just too much going on with them.

Re: Cassette player issues

Send me a PM after you talk to the radio shop. Depending on the radio you have - or the radio you might prefer to have - I might be able to help.

Re: Cassette player issues

I just got the radio back and it works again, the guy said that when you switch from fm to cassette it manually flips a switch inside, which had worn out. Thanks for your suggestions
