89 Iroc Parking Lights stay on

Hello everyone. I just bought an 89 Iroc Z today. During my 4 hour drive home in it when it was becoming dark I turned on the headlights. When I went to get gas, turn the car off, I turned off the headlights but the parking lights stayed on and the chime keep ringing. I read through some of the other posts about this issue and some mention aftermarket alarm and some mention aftermarket radio and the wiring done with those items. So this car has an aftermarket alarm but the stock radio however it does have a cd changer in the trunk w/the controller mounted above the radio on the dash. But before I start working on those I wanted to know about the **** for the headlights. I can pull it out and feel it click to turn on the headlights but I do not feel any clicking in between for the parking lights or anything and it is pretty lose/sloppy when it's not all the way in or out(for the headlights to be one). I don't remember what it was suppose to do when I had my 88 back in the mid 90s so I wanted to check here before I start checking the alarm and cd changer wiring. Is there suppose to be multiple clicks when pulling out the headlight **** or is it just one click and in between be somewhat sloppy?

And if it is the cd changer or alarm any suggestions on where to start with that? I know it's kind of a vague question but just trying to get an idea of what people have seen in the past. I did unplug the inline fuses for each and the parking lights still stay on so I pulled the fuse for the parking lights and that did turn them off. However I also noticed when I lock/unlock the car which arms/disarms the alarm you hear the chime briefly even with the parking light fuse removed so the chime obviously has nothing to do with the fuse which would make sense since it is a chime for both parking and head/tail lights. The turn singles, headlights ect do all still work with the parking light fuse pulled.

Thanks

Brian

Small update. I took the fuse out that controls the parking lights, when I click the remote to lock/unlock which also alarms/disarms the viper alarm that was put in the parking lights light up like most cars do confirming a lock/unlock. So I'm guessing it's the alarm. Been tracking it all around and pulling wires and what not. I have most of out out and disconnected but the issue is still there. Not sure if it missed something spliced in or not yet.

Also pulled out everything for the CD changer too.

In my opinion , you shot yourself in the foot with your diagnosis , and here's why I think that ;

First and foremost , there are supposed to be separate and distinct clicks at each position of the headlight switch , including the parking lights only position .

Then there is the fact that after the removed parking lights fuse made them go out , the alarm was still able to control them , which is totally normal for the way that aftermarket alarms are wired . The alarm , which is fused by itself , is connected to the parking lights AFTER the factory parking lights fuse and of course relies on it's own fuse in case of short circuits or other overloads .

Bottom line = buy a new headlight switch and put all that other stuff back together , and I'll bet your problem will be solved ......
