The turn signal switch in my camaro is messed up. The stalk is loose and doesnt stay in one place. Whenever Im in a bumpy road the stalk moves up and down on its own and activated the turn signals when I dont want it to. It also honks on its own randomly (I had to disconnect the horns)
The fella that sold me the car recently found and gave me the turn signal switch replacement. He says I need to rent a steering wheel puller from an auto parts store but when I went to AutoZone they have a bunch of different types and Ive no idea which one I need or how to use it. Ive searched for videos on YouTube but have had no luck.
The farthest I can get is unbolting the steering wheel. What do I do next?
Ive attached a picture of the signal switch I have and of my steering wheel column.
Alright so I used a few sockets and took the first metal thing pretty easily. Now I believe Im at the step where I need a puller cause Ive no idea Im how to take off that metal piece with the 3 holes.
Ive attached another picture of what it looks like now. What kind of puller do I get? And once I pull it and replace the switch how do I press that metal piece back in?
The usual puller for that will look like a flat plate with slots for bolts that can be threaded into those 3 holes, and a giant screw in the middle that presses on the center of the shaft. In fact it will probably have a little tit on the end that will match that impression that's already been made on the shaft.
To change the switch, tie about a 4' long piece of string (fishing line, dental floss, whatever) to the old one's connector, and attach the other end to something so you don't accidentally pull it all the way through; pull the old one out; take the string off the old connector and tie it to the new one; pull it in with the string.
To put the piece back on, just tighten that big nut.

Thank you for the help @sofakingdom getting the new plastic connector through such a small thought gap was a pain in the butt but now I finally have normal turn signals that dont activate on their own, and I can honk again!
