Battery wire

Okay, I have a 92 z and I'm replacing the battery wires and going with a top mount battery. I was debating whether to get 2 AWG or 4 AWG. Does it matter what output my alternator has? I have ac also. Any recommendations? I know it depends on what one has installed.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Battery wire

There is no harm in using a larger cable.

Is your vehicle completely stock?
Have you added any electrical accessories?

If not, 4 gauge is perfectly fine.

Also increasing the size of the positive cable from the Battery to the Alternator is good to do.
As well as adding the same size cable as a negative connection from the body of the Alternator to the Negative Battery Terminal.

No, the car is not completely stock. I have not added, nor have I noticed, any additional accessories that have been added. Can't say what I'll add later though. Duly noted for the increase in cables. I think I will just get the 2 AWG and be on the safe side. Thank you!
