MAF Proper Idle Readout
Hello everyone, just a quick question.
My MAF seems to idle at about 9 g/s is this normal? Or is this indictive of a small vacuum leak somewhere?
I'm chasing some codes around right now, and I am in the process of installing a new pigtail for the MAF as the clip on the stock one broke before I had the car.
It is a new MAF, and I didn't cheap out on it, but I didn't spend $300 either. I believe I bought this one. DELPHI AF10320
I'm really not looking to buy another MAF, I hope the pigtail is the cause of the code, or maybe a vacuum leak. I'm gonna try the cigar test on Monday.

Also, the PO put a 58mm BBK TB on the car. Would this cause any major issues?
I believe it is stock outside of that, but can't be certain on the internals.
48,000 Miles is on odometer, it really shouldn't be giving me this much trouble lol.

With a "Bone-Stock" TPI Engine...
I would normally see 6 to 8 grams per second at an idle.
Unless you have significantly increased the air-flow at an idle (unlikely), then you should be just fine.

My '89 reads about 8.5 g/s +/- 0.5, but it also idles up a little when I connect the datalogger.

Re: MAF Proper Idle Readout
GM spec according to the 88 FSM is 4-7 at idle with the engine warm, I’ve seen the Delphi MAF readings are a little higher than Bosch , like the 9 that was reported. If your BLMs and other data are in line I wouldn’t worry about it much. My modified L98 reads 5 with engine warmed up and at idle.
Also I would go back to stock on the throttle body, that 58mm is too much on a stock engine. It can hurt performance more than help it and could also have a leak, I’ve seen a few posts about BBKs having issues like that.
