Where to find Firebird fuel gauge motor

Hey guys. Just a quick question. Need a new fuel gauge motor for my 92 Firebird 8cyl. Anyone have a link or one they’re willing to part with?

thanks!

Fuel gauge motor? There is no such item on a third gen Firebird. You have a fuel gauge, a "sending unit" , and some wiring in between the two. Which item out of those three are you having trouble with?

Talking the actually gauge cluster itself. Need the motor that actuates the needle. Been working on diagnosing my pegged fuel gauge issue. Did the pin jumping tests on the wires above the differential to get the gauge to move and it wouldnt. Also tried the potentiometer trick with no luck. Tank sending unit is reading with proper resistance.

It's a gauge, not a motor...

The OP is thinking of a Stepper-Motor, like a modern Speedometer and other Gauges would use.

I do not recall the Third-Gen Fuel Gauge using a Stepper-Motor...

It’s a type of motor I’m sure. It uses electricity and coils to move the gauge with a higher weighted dampening fluid. Correct me if I’m wrong. The kind I need is the one that has three brass screws and washers that contact the flexible circuit on the back of the gauge cluster. I believe the camaro ones are either soldered or have 1/8” pins that insert.

I just looked at one... I am not sure where you are going to find a Stepper-Motor that will work.

I would try reaching-out to a Gauge repair Business.

Re: Where to find Firebird fuel gauge motor

Ended up finding a gauge someone was parting out. Got it replaced and the gauge/motor works now as the other one didn’t. Tested via jumping the black and pink wires. Gauge read empty.
0 ohms = empty
90 ohms = full
Open circuit = full pegged

think y’alls were confused by me calling it a motor. You’re right that it’s not a stepper but it still uses electro magnetic induction to rotate its axel which is why I referred to it as a motor.

Sending unit is in fact not reading at all. Going to replace the sending unit and fuel pump. Mozzle do em together. My hatch panel was already cut by a kindergarten with a 1/2” drill bit their eyes closed. Gotta clean up someone else’s mess but glad I have access this way. Totally worth it.
