Hello third gen,
I have a 86 Iroc 5.0 and I need help identifying which relay is which. Which is fuel pump, maf burn off and maf power. I tried looking for wire codes and other replay post but they seem to always be different. I tired tracing the wires and my guess is the middle is fuel pump since it has a red wire. I need to replace them for code 36. The wires are in bad shape and don’t know why they are burnt but I’ll be replacing the pig tails. Purchasing off rock auto..Thank you .
thanks. I can’t seem to find just a prom and looks like rock auto sells the whole ecm but local programming is needed and some requires the old prom the be transferred. I can’t seem to find how to deal with code 36 and 43. I changed the IAC , new mass flow sensor, new relays , new electronic spark control module , new knock sensor, spark plugs, wires, and I can’t seem the make this damn car run. Keeps shutting off when I put it into gear, no power going up hills, and shakes like if it is cammed. Already sprayed carb cleaner to find leaks and nothing.
thats interesting because I can’t seem to find that for sale.
I haven’t done a 43 code tree steps but only thing I have to check is voltage or new distributor cap or pick up coil. I heard that another issue. I’ll check the voltage on the knock sensor first. I saw on here it 4-6v.
Pervious owner hooked a different radiator fan and turns on when the key is switched on and recently noticed it doesn’t do that anymore. So I might have electrical issues based on the 36, 43 and the fan not Turning on since it’s connected hot. Everything else electrical wise works even my electric motor hatch to the fm antenna
awesome thank you for helping me out! You’re a good person..
what manual are you using? I would definitely buy one right now at this point because it’s hard to come across the answers here..
so the prom or chip is all wheel drive? I have a 1986 305 tpi
The letters are what’s called a broadcast code so no not all wheel drive just code awd 305 automatic tpi.
the boof I have is a copy of the helm fsm from howell wiring for . Tpi swappers guide has same information.

I’m going to by the book right now!
so I’m taking the car apart and don’t know where exactly I’m I suppose to get the voltage. Is it D on the hardness I’m holding or on the actual ecm?
it sure does say any!
I appreciate it bro! Going to order it rn and hope it solved all my issues. I’ll get back to you and hope it’s good news. You can private message me a po address or address and I’ll send you 20 bucks at least for gas lol. You really helped me out.
My mistake ANY is a 86 with fed and California emissions with a/c
thw amu like in ecm case letter was 86 but superseded to the any my mistake
thanks bro! I just ordered it from oreillys auto parts. Same thing just like 30 bucks more but easier than me having to ship back my core to rock auto . Sucks they couldn’t price match
Did you follow the Steps, exactly as directed in the Diagnostic Chart/ Trouble Tree?
...and I mean, Exactly.
Even if you did (Correctly)...
I highly recommend repeating the Procedure a 2nd and 3rd time.
Mistakes are very easily made, when not decently experienced with these Diagnostic Procedures.
Fortunately this particular Diagnostic Chart is very short, and easy to follow.
I am just saying that we all make mistakes, and double-checking your work is always a good practice to follow.
I was an Engineer for GM... and I will happily admit that I even sometimes make mistakes too.
Good luck!
I hope that you do not need to replace the PCM...
Hopefully the Ignition Timing Retard (Knock) Module/ Electronic Spark control (ESC) Module is the issue instead.
