What is this?
hey guys new to the forum, but have trolling for many years. I have a 86 camaro tpi that I am switching to carb and cleaning up all the old wiring.
does anyone know what this box is for? its located my the battery and plugs into the drivers side harness. I tried looking it up with no luck. It says NE air services on it. Thanks in advance.

Hi, and welcome to TGO !
Now, unfortunately I can't tell you what that is, I haven't a clue......
BUT !
I can tell you what it isn't. It is not a factory installed GM component, it's some kind of aftermarket device for doing, , , , something.

Air Service? Must be the part that enables KITT to leap over canyons.
Interesting. Is there some other small writing there under where it says "NE Air Services?"

Could only make a WAG, which wouldn't help you.
Try tracing out the individual wires and compare what you find to the car's factory wiring diagram(s). Seeing where they go will provide some clues before you remove that thing and subsequently possibly keeping the car from running.

Re: What is this?
Looks rather like an alarm.
Get rid of it. Trace every one of its wires and repair any damage to the car's original wiring where it was hacked into it.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the drivers side harnesses? I'm glad I am fixing all the engine wiring it's all hacked. I was just doing vortec heads, cam and carb swap but realized how much of a fire Hazzard the wiring is, and it needs to be addressed.

In the meantime, search ebay for a copy of the Factory Service Manual; if you plan to keep the car, you're going to need one.

Z loc inside car
Motion sensor and security light
Ah ha.. found out what it was, a old alarm system. Traced the harness which I thought was a factory one and it lead to the drivers side fire wall. That's where these sensors were located. After that I traced a wire scotch locked to my ignition wire on my distributor connections. So that key armed the system, which activated a motion sensor and also killed the ignition.
