1992 Z28 Delco Loc 11 stereo issue.

Hi all.
I have a 1992 Z28 with only 3300 miles on it.
I just purchased the car so I don’t much history on the car.
When I try to turn on the radio it only shows the display in the picture attached. No sound though the speakers and can’t change any station. I’m thinking it’s locked out as possibly the battery died on this car at some point. But I don’t know anything about this system.I removed fuse and waited 1/2 hour and put fuse back. Still same issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That doesn't look to be actually locked. The display is showing the time display. Should see "Loc" if it's been programmed and needs the code to unlock. But in case it is locked I'd search the car over for a cheat sheet or something noted in the owner's manual that the previous owner used. Otherwise maybe a dealer tech will spend the time to pull the code.

Thanks Tom3.
I think you’re right that it’s not locked. Maybe the radio is just on its way out.

I'd check the full time power feed to the radio first off. Then stick an old CD in the deck and see if it accepts it and shows it playing. That's kind of a rare Delco unit there and would be really nice to get it working. Be unusual for all speaker outputs to go dead on all functions.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I just went out and tried a CD and it won’t accept it.

Next step would be to check for the constant power feed to the unit. This keeps the clock time and radio presets accurate while the car is sitting. Might be a courtesy fuse or something, not sure of the fuses. After that you'd have to pull the radio to go further. Those old Delcos were built pretty tough.

I just pulled the radio out. Checked the 2 power feeds. One hot with key on and hot all the time. Both good. Also checked the ground. All good.

I guess the final thing to check would be to get an AA battery and test the speakers. When you tap the battery power to any speaker you should hear a click or pop from the speaker. Won't hurt the speaker. If good I guess the radio either needs repaired (if possible) or replaced.

Been a long time since I dealt with theft loc, if I remember correctly there's a sticker on the radio that has a 6 digit number on it that the dealer can convert to the code to enter to unlock it..

Update.
I left the radio out of the car sitting on my workbench for 5 days.
I reinstalled the radio with the ignition hot and the radio starting working as it should.
The radio gods were watching over me! Haha

That's a good deal for that somewhat rare radio. Sometimes you just have to teach stuff a lesson, "work or get replaced." I put a Delco CD radio out of a 97 S10 pickup in my 88. Couple small trims and it fit really nice.

Will the radio failed again. So i removed it and sent it out to a place in Michigan ( M&R Electronics) that specializes in repairing vintage radios. They took a look at it and let me know its common for all the capacitors to start leaking and need to replace them all. Also re soldier spots on the circuit board and can have it done in a day and ship it back out to me in CA. $250.00. Also service the CD player as well. I will have it back early next week. I think worth the investment on this particular stereo. And they give a 1 year warranty. Let you all know how it operates once its back in the car.

Received stereo back today from getting repaired. Installed it back into car and works like it should. Worth the investment in keeping the equipment original.

Good to hear. Those car stereos are jam packed with components. I wouldn't touch one. Well worth the money to get it preserved - especially with that particular unit.
