Tried posting this in the v6 forum with no response so im trying again here, hoping someone can identify this plug for me. Its from under the dash and comes from the harness just a few inches up from the fuse pannel. For the life of me I dont remember unhooking anything there and cant find anything that it would connect to. It has 4 wires grey black brown n purple. The grey wire is the only wire i could find continuity with from the fuse pannel at the 5a illumination fuse. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Looks kinda like for a fog light switch. If that's what it is, and your car doesn't have those, then it won't plug into anything.
Appreciate the reply, i was thinking that or maybe like a relay. Wish i could verify this for sure. Ive tried looking up connectors for these cars and cant find any that look like this, and all the fog light switch pigtails seem to be 2 wire that ive seen.
Different Model Year Camaro's had different Wire Colors at the Fog-Lamp Switch...
Some had the Relay in the Engine Compartment, and later Model Years had the Relay in the Interior/ Dash.
The combination of the Old Wire Insulation and the Image together make the Color-Identification difficult to People less familiar with these Wiring-Systems.
The 4-Colors at the Switch Connector in the Image are as follows:
-Black = Chassis Ground.
-Grey = Illumination Circuit (12v+) to Illuminate Switch and Power ON Indicator.
-Brown = Power into the Switch (12v+)
-Purple = Power out of the Switch (12v+) to the Fog Lamps.
This Switch carries the Load of the Fog-Lamp Power Circuit (Down-Stream of the Fog-Lamp Relay) unlike a Modern Vehicle.
It is a High-Amperage Switch.
These Cars do NOT have a Fog-Lamp Relay in the "conventional" sense.
Meaning they do not have an Activation Relay for a Low-Amperage Fog-Lamp Switch to be used (like a Modern Vehicle).
The Fog-Lamp Relay in these Cars serves the purpose of disabling the Fog-Lamps when the High-Beam Headlamps are Switched ON.
The other more Common Combination that was used on later Model Years would be:
-Black = Chassis Ground.
-Grey = Illumination Circuit (12v+) to Illuminate Switch and Power ON Indicator.
-Yellow = Power into the Switch (12v+)
-Purple = Power out of the Switch (12v+) to the Fog Lamps.
Isn't he missing a wire? Is the brown wire in the picture a solid brown wire of a brown w/white stripe wire?
Your Firebird Schematic does not apply to his Camaro.
The Camaro's are lacking in comparison to the Firebird Wiring (the Firebird has a far better design).
Some of the Firebird's actually use a proper Fog-Lamp Relay (like a Modern Vehicle) as in the Firebird Schematic Above.
The Camaro's (especially Early Model-Years) did not.
