This will be long so be warned.. This all started because the sheathing on the fusible link coming off the battery was missing or melted off but the wire inside was good so I put some silicone sleeve over it and was going to try to run it. I have decided that I did not want to try that so I am wanting to buy/build all new cables and convert to top post battery with "Military style" terminals. Coming off of the battery, there are 2 wires. A black wire with a male wetherpack (WP) and an orange wire with a female WP. They go to corresponding WP plugs on the frame rail below the A/C line. My initial thought was buy the 2 long battery cables with 3/8 rings to connect at the battery terminal then run 2 smaller 12GA wires with correct WP terminals but instead of the fusible link, I would run an inline fuse like this, and like the factory setup:
But I decided to open the factory loom and found that the 2 WP terminals at the frame rail are a separate run to an inline fuse already in the stock wiring harness like this:
This is all for the small harness that runs the fans and I don't know what else. Its all connected to this relay, also mounted on the passenger side.
So, can I go ahead and "delete" the fusible link and run that orange wire to an inline fuse if there is already a fuse on that line? I enjoy some wiring but this has me confused. This is on an all original 88 TPI 305 5 speed car. All factory wiring. Can someone help me out on this?
