I have no cruise. Trying to diagnose it. It's a 700R4 to T5 conversion car. It was working fine then it stopped. Ran the diagnostic per the book and it points toward a bad module. Just curious as to how many of you actually had that as the failure point.

Been lucky so far, all my cars work.
As long as all vacuum hoses are good.
Pop open the electrical box (pass side behind trim panel) and look reeeally close for broken solder joints.
maybe a old school electronics/tv repair shop could fix it.

Re: How many of you have had the cruise control module fail?
Our cruise control systems work on vacuum, so maybe one of the lines broke or slipped off somewhere.
On the other hand, my cruise control stopped working a while back and I traced it back to the cruise control switch in the lever stalk.
Bought an aftermarket replacement lever, slipped the "housing" cover over it (because the aftermarket cheapo one wasn't meeting the original quality at all) and haven't had a problem with it again.
Edit:
OK, I didn't trace anything, I just hoped it's the lever:

Re: How many of you have had the cruise control module fail?
That was indeed the problem. The clutch switch was out of rig. It wasn't in far enough so the switch was never depressed so it was dumping the vacuum. Works now. Wonder if the engine saw that as a constant vacuum leak?

My cruise isn't working either. I replaced the switch at the brake pedal, but it didn't fix it. All vacuum lines seem okay.
I sprayed some electrical contact cleaner into the button on the stalk today but didn't get around to testing it . Hopefully when I take it for a spin tomorrow it'll work. I've looked at replacement stalks and theres two different types. Did they change styles maybe around '89 or so? Mine is the older style, but it's all black. Most aftermarket ones that are the correct style have fake chrome, which would look ridiculous in my car.

I have this one. It's a touch longer than the stock one but I think it's pretty good. Just not glossy.

I have an 87 and that's a pretty good facsimile. The only thing I had to do was cut the end off in order to get it down the Colum, then solder it back together.

Well the electronic cleaner didn't work, so ordering a new switch is my next try.
I just noticed that Dorman sells the washer lever by itself, so that makes me think I could get one of those with the ugly chrome trim, and just swap it out with my black one.

The one I bought in 2017, the Standard DS-1268, is still working to this day.
The plug fit nicely into my 1990 T/A steering column and I could re-use my original sleeve.
