Question regarding late 91-92 Camaro Trunk Pull down Motor assemblies :
Hi, I have a 92 Camaro that was pretty much stripped of most if not all options. When she was new she did not have power windows, remote trunk popper, power locks, or power mirrors. This fall, i've been re-wiring the car with a Dash wiring harness from Hawks, for a 1992 Camaro Z28 wiring harness that is complete with power windows, power locks, and power mirrors, as well as rear defrost and Fog lamps, etc. etc. While wiring this new harness into my car, i noticed by comparing it to my original factory harness, that it had the wiring already ran for the center console switch to pop the rear hatch, It just never had a button in place. Both harnesses, had the provisions for the button already ran, and they are identical.
So since it has the wiring for the switch already there, i figured It must be ready to accept a switch and work. Well i havent gotten it all back together yet to test it, but i did mock fit up the switch to the wiring and it does in fact plug in without issue. This Dash harness runs down the driver side of the car all the way to the trunk area, where it plugs into the trunk wiring harness, the plug is located right behind the glove box door in the hatch area on the left(drivers side) of the car.
While working on the trunk hatch assembly area I started to look at the motor and assembly closely, and noticed that i didnt see any sort of a solenoid that would actuate the remote pop button to actually open the trunk/hatch. When i look at photos of the 85-early 91's cars setups i clearly see a large solenoid and plugs setup to plug into it, which tells me that it has a specific unit added to the basic trunk motor setup to actually pop the hatch. I dont see this type of solenoid as i've said on my 92 hatch motor setup. I've included a photo of mine here below, and you can see that there is nothing that looks like a hatch popper solenoid:
I was wondering if there is any of you out there with a 92 that has the remote popper that would be able to take a photo of their hatch motor setup and share it below to see if there is any differences between yours and mine, so that i may see what i need to find/buy to get my remote hatch button to actually pop the hatch open. If mine is exactly the same as one that already has the remote hatch pop, well then i guess im good to go, but everything in my mind is telling me i need some sort of a solenoid to actually turn the hatch latch to pop the hatch, and my setup does not seem to have this. Any help or thoughts about this is appreciated greatly. Thank you in advance, and sorry for such a long post.
