Hood Light

Now that my swap is pretty much complete, I have decided to hook up some lights under the hood. The existing hood light is still in place but the wiring is now missing. It may be hanging out somewhere buy I don't really know where to look. Can someone point out a location where the wire goes into engine compartment and wire color?

Re: Hood Light

Wire is black, connector looks like a fuse holder (because it is), near the evaporator housing.

The stock hood light mounted to the hood and used a mercury (tilt) switch in its housing to come on when the hood got opened enough. It was REAL crappy; would come on sometimes if you parked the car on a steep driveway, for example. Mercury of course is illegal to sell as a consumer item nowadays because it's SO poisonous, and of course being an element, not a compound, it is ABSOLUTELY FOREVER. The light itself was one little weenie bulb, a 194 or some such, and it was kinda off to the pass side of the pass side valve cover and only a foot or so from the hood hinges. No illumination whatsoever on the belts, radiator hoses, etc., where you'd need it about 99% of the time that you'd get stuck on a dark road needing to look at something. It was one of those things that sorta "seemed" "cool" butt in real life fell WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY short in many ways.

Butt you could maybe put some nice LED lights under there, like kinda all around the perimeter of the hood and maybe the fenders and core support, and mount a switch someplace convenient, and that would be actually USEFUL.

Re: Hood Light

Thanks for the info. Is the black wire in the same bundle that has hvac wires in it? Would it be hot all the time or only with parking/headlights on?

I picked up a pack of LED light strips on Amazon for $18. I plan on running one strip along the front part of the hood to illuminate the engine.

Re: Hood Light

I think the blower relay is powered by the wire with the fuseable link. Which i think goes to the starter, thereby battery cable.

Re: Hood Light

I traced the wires off the blower relay and they go behind the engine. It is much too tight to justify the effort just to add some lights. I had pulled out my box full of old harness wires and actually found the hood light harness. It looks like I did modify the wires going to the relay since the wire I found had connectors on it. Much too long ago to remember. I'm going to run a wire on the left side of the engine and up the hinge to my wires. It will be much cleaner and a ton less effort.
Thank you for all the assistance
