Stop lights and 3rd brake light don't work
Stop lights and 3rd brake light don't work
I have no brake lights when I depress the pedal but have power going to the switch with the key on. Turn the key off an no power. Shouldn't I have power all the time at the switch. Or the power only comes on only when the switch is activated? Did I answer my own question?I have power on both brake switch terminals, pink and purple with the key is on. Is the brake light switch bad?
I think I'm looking at the wrong switch. Is it the switch with two pigtails.

Doesn't sound right.
Pretty sure the BL sw will have an orange and a lt blue wire. Orange is hot at all times.
Check the Stop/Haz fuse first.

Your right. I had the wrong switch. I jiggled the wires to see if the 3 light would come on. It did a couple of days ago but don't any more. I need to find out which two wires are used for the 3rd light so that I can check them. I got brake lights, 4 way flashers. It looks like a very difficult job removing the switch. I saw one youtube video showing that the brake assembly needs completely removed.

The regular brake lights go through the hazard flasher switch in cars that use the same bulbs for hazards and brake lights. The 3rd light needs to come on whether the hazards are on or not. Not sure why they used a 2-pole switch; seems as though the CHMSL could have been fed off of the blue wire right at the switch, butt what do I know about complicated electrical things like ... lights ... anyway.
Re: Stop lights and 3rd brake light don't work
Just today, I eliminated the brake light switch as defective. Got frustrated and put the car in storage. It gave me problems even putting it in storage. After 3 IAC's and doing different procedures to get it in sync with the ECM it stalled just as I was entering the storage unit. Started it again and disconnected the negative post locked the unit and left. Next year it's going to a shop to get everything fixed. After that, putting it out there for sale. I've had it with the Trans Am GTA. Hardly used it. 36 year old car with 24,000 accurate miles. Here's a laugh, 666 miles per year. It's red so it must be Christine's long loss relative.
