87 GTA Digital Dash intermittantly fading

The digital reading over in the mileage box sometimes is barely legible and other times it's o.k. Is there a common cause for this symptom (resistor, poor connection etc.)?
Also the fuel guage (a digital LED thing) is inconsistant who knows the correct way to test Sending unit vs. Guage (or even instrument cluster)

I have a problem with the digital odometer as well. All the other guages work fine, but the odometer works once in a while and does not count the mileage. What gives???

Thanx

Dave

Hey Dave that's a fine looking car. Did your GTA come stock with that 305? And by the way what color is that?

If all portions of the flourescent display are affected equally , it may be the display dimmer control, or its connection path to the cluster. If just one portion of the display is affected, it's most likely an internal flourescent display problem, in which case, you could disassemble the unit and inspect it for an intermittant solder connection or coroded board to board contact. You may want to reflow all of the solder connections & reseat all of the interconnect harnesses.

Snap Draggin thanks for the comment and yes it was a 305 from the factory. Check out www.gtasourcepage.com for some cool facts about GTA's. The color is Flame Red Metallic. I have more pics on my site www.fbody.com/members/1987GTA my GTA, buick old GTA, and various others.

Thanx

Dave
