Complete V6 turbo kit

I built this for my brother's 88 firebird. He spun the #1 rod bearing because the rear main seal leaked really bad and he ran low on oil. This includes EVERYTHING you need to turbo an 88 firebird with a 2.8L v6. It may work for other cars, as long as it is a MAF v6 with the battery anywhere but the passenger side location.

I'm now including the intercooler and t4 compressor housing for the same price

included:
-Garrett T3 turbo
-AiResearch T04E 60 trim compressor wheel and housing
-modified Starion intercooler
-all stainless braided oil feed/drain
-coolant lines
-all intake pipes
-exhaust y-pipe (not pictured)
-stainless steel downpipe w/ O2 bung
-6 LT1 injectors (24pph)
-custom modified and tuned ECM
-almost all bolts
-all hose clamps
asking $800

OPTIONS:
-modified oil pan with fully tig welded 1/2" NPT oil drain bung(free upon arrival of usable stock pan)
-open air Blow-off valve ($50)

NOT INCLUDED (but you already have them):
-MAF sensor
-O2 sensor
-IAT sensor
-Oil pressure sensor

Required modifications:
-3-wire O2 sensor (powered by MAF relay)
-relocate MAF/IAT/O2/and oil pressure sensors.
-3" hole in passenger side battery tray
-two 3" holes in air dam for an intercooler
-connect the downpipe to your exhaust system, though my brother ran an open downpipe and it sounded sweet.

questions welcome

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

Would you be willing to split anything up. I have a 91 3.1 and I may turbo it but I don't need everything you have.

And what kind of turbo is it. How many miles are on the kit. And if it had a oil leak that eventually blew the motor, what kinda of damage did it do the the turbo. Thanks. You can e-mail me @ aguitarmn@yahoo.com
Oh and I am in PA, under you SN it says your in MD. If its worth it I could drive down and pick it up.
I was just going to trade off my body kit from my neon to trade for a V8, but I would rather turbo the Camaro.

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

Which parts do you want?

the turbo is a Garrett t3 from an 87 Dodge Lancer. I also have a custom machined T4 60trim compressor upgrade with a balanced compressor wheel that I never got a chance to install.

The turbo has about 40K on it form the Lancer since being rebuilt. The whole turbo kit only has about 500 miles on it.

I'm pretty sure the turbo was undamaged when the motor ran low on oil. It spins fine with almost no play. The turbo is the first thing to be lubricated in this design. The last thing in the entire engine to be lubricated is the #2 connecting rod, and the car was immediately taken off the road at the first signs of the tapping sound.

I'm just north of Baltimore.

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

Thanks for explaining that this kit is a good deal, cause it is. My younger bro is using the money that he was sup[posed to pay me for the cost of the kit to fix/build his motor. Since I've paid for everything in the kit... I'm selling it just to get my money back

I never had a chance to mess with the spark tables, so they're stock. I didn't get a chance to data log LV8 vs RPM and stuff like that to see where the ecm reads in multiple circumstances. So modifying the spark tables at this point would be a lot of guess work.

I want to wait a little longer on breaking up this kit, but if I can get most of the parts sold individually I'll do that.

Also I have a 7302 ecm from an 88 v6 camaro that I could modify if you're interested.

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

I paid $29 at a JY for the ecm. It costs me $39 for adapter parts and a blank chip.
(edit:being from a JY, and my brother's car being down, I can't test it to make sure it works)

I would need $80(+shipping from baltimore) to modify this ecm for you. Make it $85 shipped.

If you sent me your ecm I would do it for cost of parts, $15 labor/burn, and return shipping. I imagine shipping would be around $5.

Parts costs assume using parts from www.moates.net. I've been trying to figure out a cheaper way to modify it though.

I could probably make changes for even bigger injectors. Also if you need to make any future tuning changes I could reburn the chip for you. Like if you figure out where the timing needs to be changed in the SA vs Load vs RPM table. I could also just raise certain rpm at all loads, or certain loads at all rpm. If you know which rpm the timing should be raised or lowered I could make some changes.

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

I'm also looking for tubular headers and a y-pipe for a 2.8/3.1. I would knock the price down if you want to trade headers+money.

I'm also looking for:
~forged 350/383 crank and rods
~stainless T3 turbo flanges
~ported 2.8/3.1 RWD heads
~dual 3" to single 4" exhaust adapter
~front coilover upgrade
~LS1 style T56 and adapter plate to t5 bell housing
~a strong rear (not 10 bolt 7.5) that bolts into 3rd or 4th gen

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

If you do split the kit up I am interested in the oil pan. What exactly can you do to the ecu? I guess what I'm asking is that if I send you my ecu can you burn a chip that will allow me to run larger injectors and more than 8 psi?

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

Larger injectors, yes... more than 8 psi depends on when the stock MAF sensor peaks, which I don't know (I think around 150gms/sec, which isn't much).

maybe if you had huge (38pph or larger) injectors and the y-pipe intake MAF setup (like dual MAF sensors in parallel) you might be able to cheat the ecm into reading exactly half of the air flow, but injecting twice as much fuel. On paper it works great, but I'd almost guarantee you'd need to re-tune it (at least the idle).

Untill I/someone "dumps the ROM" on the 1227302 ecm, and someone else does "a hac" on the code, the things you can do on the chip are very limited.

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

ok, so if you burn me a chip for 19pph injectors and I use it on my turbo setup will I still need to run an fmu? or will the ecu recongnize the boost and compensate for it?

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

The stock chip is actually calibrated perfectly for 19 pph injectors and runs really lean on the stock 16pph injectors (from my experience). The problem with the 19pph injectors is possibly maxing them out! You could probably get away with 6 psi on a bone stock 2.8, with 19pph injectors, and no ecm modification.

all of this is assuming a MAF sensor (1227302 ecm) on a stock 2.8 motor.

^^ this is correct they will max around 7-8 psi @ 6 psi it will maintian approx a 12.0-1 afr under boost
at 7-8 psi u will run into 13.0-1 ish afrs

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

Is the whole kit still for sale? If so what kind of output can I expect? And what kind of room is there for more performance?

If you could PM me when you get this as I dont check here very often.

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

i haven't heard from anyone in over a week, so its still up for grabs.

I finnally got a "new" intercooler for this setup, cost me $75, so tack that onto the price if you want it. Its the more efficient bar and plate style this time.

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

In an effort to sell this kit quicker to get my money back, I'm including the intercooler I just picked up for no extra charge.

I won't go any cheaper though... I'll just put it back on my brother's car if its not sold by the time he is finished building his 3.1.

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

My brother is taking his engine parts to the machine shop on Monday... So if anyone still wants this turbo kit, I predict that there is about a month untill HE buys it from me.

original details have been edited slightly

Re: Complete V6 turbo kit

bump it to the top for last call...motor comes home this week.

I really do not want my 17 year old brother to have this turbo kit any more, he is too irresponsible. He has not paid me a cent for any part of this turbo kit. I'd like to get that money back eventually, so the best way is to sell this kit for the cost of parts.

If I sell this kit maybe I can buy him some new exhaust to put on his car, or else I have to try to find some exhaust in the junk yard. Maybe the buyer of this kit would sell me their stock y-pipe after they remove it.
